Provincial Grand Charity Steward : 2022 Annual Report

After the two year break due to the pandemic, and some initial nervousness,  social and fundraising events have at last returned to normality.

I wish to thank all the Charity Stewards for the support they have provided to their lodges and the Province to help the poor, hungry, and distressed.

My personal priorities for the year have been :

  • Supporting the organisation of Provincial fundraisingevents
  • Supporting local Charity Stewards
  • Improving publicity, beforeand after events
  • Monitoring what lodges have done and sharing good practices
  • Keeping aware of what lodges are planning to do, so that I can support them

There is a clear link between the work of local Charity Stewards and the Province’s aims of increasing the recruitment of new members and improving the retention of existing members. My message to Charity Stewards has therefore been :

  • Run enjoyable events
  • Which raise money for good causes
  • Show Masonry in a good light
  • And are always publicised well, before and after the event

In order to support these priorities I have :

  • held 3 monthly meetings with Charity Stewards
  • introduced a quarterly Jotform return giving details of events and money raised, which looks back 3 months and forward 3 months.
  • provided guidance on writing press articles
  • clarified the dress code for the presentation of donations
  • introduced the display of recruitment banners at public events

Supporting Food Banks

Given the number of poor, hungry, and distressed people in our Province, the Provincial Grand Master canvassed lodges and identified four food banks to support :

  • San Gabriel – in Alicante. Initial donation of 1,500€, followed by a payment of 500€
  • Reach Out – in Torrevieja. Initial donation of 750€, followed by two payments of 500€ each
  • Amigos de la Calle – in the city of Valencia. Initial donation of 1,000€, followed by a payment of 500€
  • Ca La Mare – in Catarroja ( Valencia ). Initial donation of 1,000€, followed by a payment of 500€

We have also introduced Food Bank boxes at the Costa Nova and Quesada Centres where donations can be brought and left before meetings and social events.

Many lodges such as Hiram Abif 80 and Old Tower 49 have organised events to support the Provincial Food Bank Initiative. For example, Old Tower 49 raised 1,000€ at its BBQ.

Provincial Social Events and Concerts

May’s Provincial Garden Party at Los Arcos in Pedreguer and September’s Provincial Late Summer Party at Coopers Bar in Quesada raised 1,000€ and 655€ respectively for the Food Bank initiative. Thank you W.Bro.Peter Johnson for organising these along with an ongoing series of concerts which raised an additional 535€ for Provincial charities.

Provincial Golf Tournament

After a 3 year enforced break, this took place at Bonalba Golf Course 17th June and was a great success. Eighty two players raised 2,000€ for the PGM’s Children and Young Person’s Charities and 500€ was presented to Elche Childrens Care Home, El Preventorio Childrens home, Raquel Paya Special Needs School, and Comunidad Nazaret.

Provincial Draw

As always, brethren were generous in their purchase of the annual Provincial Draw tickets. The winning numbers were drawn at the Provincial Assembly and 1380€ from the draw and 695€ from the raffle were subsequently donated to Provincial charities.

Draw ticket numbers have been issued to every lodge for the 2023 Provincial Draw at the 25th February Provincial Assembly.

Lodge Fundraising

Some examples of the fund raising which took place in so many lodges are the following :

  • Arenal Deportiva 65 – raised 1,000€ for Raquel Paya Special Needs School, Denia
  • Santa Faz 48 – raised 4,000€ for Elche Childrens Home
  • Puerto de Xabia 58 – raised 1,236€  for local Cancer Care
  • Caledonia 68 – raised 1,000€ for the Provincial Food bank initiative
  • Old Tower 49 – raised 1,000€ the Provincial Food bank initiative
  • Old Tower 49 – raised 900€ for the Butterfly Childrens Charity
  • San Juan 28 – raised 1,000€ for Alfaz del Pi food bank
  • Javea 40 – raised 1,000€ for the autism assessment of a Ukrainian child

On behalf of myself, the Charity Stewards, and their many helpers, thank you for your support during the year.
